Hi Cambus, This site is great! Thank you! I think the In The Clear QAM Tuner channel listing on this page might be a little out of date. Can you update it or point me to where I could find an updated list? Thank you!

Looks like Insight has moved ESPN HD to the ESPN2 HD, TNT HD and MHD level.

http://www.insight-com.com/SelectMyOptions.aspx

Look under "Insight Digital 2.0 with DVR & HDTV and click "channels included."

Well I have Direct TV and for the price and quality next to insight I could never go back. There are so many HD channels to choose from at this point I record more than I ever have and hope I will have time to watch them. The quality of the new MPEG 4 channels is awesome. Yes I need a antenna in my attic to get the HD locals but, for me that is no problem.

I pay over $100 for Insight cable (w/ two DVRs and HBO/Showtime). I'm looking to dump them and move to DirecTV. Have you found the picture quality on stations such as ESPN-HD to be on par with Insight?

The MEPG 4'S are outstanding. Those are all the new ones. The original Hd MEPG 2's are not as good but, will migrate to MPEG 4.

I pay about 120 and have 2 dvr's all the movie channels and most of the channels offered outside of sport packs like Sunday ticket.

You are more than welcome to PM me and come over and take a look.

Actually, the PQ is much better on D* than on insight and the DVRs are not even on the same plane, they are more like TiVo and are actually pretty reliable. :)

Does D* offer local HD yet? Can they provide 3.1, 32.1 and 11.1? What about 3.2?

DirecTV offers the primary channel (3.1, 32.1, 11.1, 41.1) -- no sub channels. See info below:

WHAT: DIRECTV, Inc., the nation's leading satellite television service
provider, is now offering local HD programming to customers in
the Louisville, Ky. designated market area. The following
broadcast networks are available in HD: WHAS/ABC, WLKY/CBS,
WDRB/FOX and WAVE/NBC. With the addition of Louisville, DIRECTV
now offers local HD broadcast channels in 76 cities,
representing nearly 76 percent of U.S. TV households.

DIRECTV's roll out of local HD channels in Louisville is part of
a nationwide expansion of HD programming that includes 92
national HD channels.

WHEN: Beginning today, Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008.

HOW: To receive DIRECTV's local HD programming, customers must have
an H20 or H21 HD receiver or an HR20 or HR21 DIRECTV Plus(R) HD
DVR and a Ka/Ku band dish. DIRECTV is offering new customers a
$100 mail-in rebate on all DIRECTV HD and HD DVR receivers or an
instant $100 rebate for customers who lease the equipment online
at DIRECTV.com. Customers can also learn more about DIRECTV's
advanced products by calling 1-800-DIRECTV.
*T

Eligibility for local channels is based on service address within
certain designated market areas as defined by Nielsen Media Research,
Inc. Visit DIRECTV.com for more information.

I get the sub-channels off my OTA antenna using my DirecTv HD DVRs. The ATSC is in the HR20 and H20, but is not built-in in their models HR21 and H21. There is an adapter that will be available soon to allow you to tune OTA channels using the 21 models per DTV. The upside is that the 21 models are $100 cheaper than the 20 models were.

Cambus,

Do you have a current list of Clear-QAM channels that Insight offers?

Too bad the non-broadcast programming networks (ESPN, TNT, etc.) force encryption and therefore requiring set-tops/CableCARDs where otherwise a regular QAM-tuner would suffice.

Insight has a survey for which HD channels you wanted added. I would give a direct link, but it will not let me after I have completed the survey. Just click the read link
